Former Boca Juniors and Argentina playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme could be joining Southampton. The move would be a major coup for Southampton and their new manager Maurico Pochettino. Riquelme has held talks with Brazilian side Palmieras who will be playing in the Copa Libertadores in 2013 however, the fact Palmeiras will be in the Brazilian second division is thought to have put the Argentine playmaker off. Southampton are prepared to offer Riquelme a huge deal until the end of the season as they look to avoid relegation back to the Championship. Following the sacking of Nigel Adkins the new boss is keen to make his mark on the team and sees Riquelme as the perfect man to help fire the saints up the table. The Argentine is available on a free transfer after leaving Boca juniors and could sign as soon as Thursday.
